B105.7 Christmas Choir Competition

Thanks to some very talented 8th grade choir students, our school is a finalist for the B105.7 Christmas Radio Contest for the second year in a row! There are five finalists in the middle school division and we need your help to make sure EAST takes the championship once again. Please vote everyday starting now through December 7th so we can win the grand prize of $2500. Logan, Madi, Toni and Maggie submitted audition CDs and were selected b the Indiana Music Educators committee. In January, they will travel to Fort Wayne to represent our school and sing with other talented singers from all over the state. Fantastic work!!

Note Name Study Guide

Choir students will be studying note names this quarter. The quiz will be on December 15th and 16th. The study guide is located here.

Solo and Ensemble Contest

S & E is a great opportunity for students who want an enriching performing experience.

• This is completely optional. :-)
• Students may audition for our class ensemble next week during class on Thursday or Friday.
• Any students wishing to prepare a solo or form a student-created ensemble are required to work with a voice teacher. 
• Ms. El-Kareh is a local private voice teacher and her information can be found here. Flyers from other local teachers can be found in the choir room.

      *On this day students will bring all of their belongings (including backpack and choir uniform) with them to Pride. At 2:20 we will go directly to the bus that will transport us to Franklin Central for the concert. Dinner will be provided.

Just the Guys Concert Information

Our first performance of the year is right around the corner!

Who: 7th and 8th grade boys (also boys from West and FC)
When: Thursday, October 9th at 7:00 PM
Where: Franklin Central High School Auditorium (Door 9)

**On the day of the concert, students must bring their uniform (black shoes, black dress pants, and polo shirt) with them to school.**

Polo shirts for 7th graders and new 8th graders will be passed out next week.

Students Aren't Standardized

"Students Aren't Standardized" and "Think Beyond the Bubbles" are the new advocacy slogans for the National Association for Music Education. 

Participating in the performing arts is a unique experience that teaches skills not found in standardized testing. Here are the skills listed on the back of the shirt:

Rhythm Quiz

This week students started learning about rhythm. There will be a summative rhythm quiz on Monday, September 29th (Blue Day) and Tuesday the 30th (White Day). You can download the study guide here.

Circle the State With Song and Honor Choir

Circle the State With Song and Indiana Middle School Honor Choir are two extra-curricular events that we highly recommend. The paperwork included here was discussed in class and interested students should have brought home the information sheet. Auditions will take place Thursday, September 4th and Friday, September 5th after school from 2:30-3:45. Students will sign up for a three minute time slot. They are welcome to stay after school in the choir room until their audition.

Stuff Middle School Choir Kids Say

We filmed this video last spring. The students insisted they be in it, and they had a really great time poking fun at themselves. Special guest appearance by our favorite boy band, "Two Direction."
